people scratching their head. the accident that killed a man in charge of a well-known company. >> live and in hd, this is abc 7 news at 11:00, on your side. >> 82-year-old boy was shot in the chest this night. --a to them -- a 2-year-old boy shot himself in the chest tonight. >> he is in critical condition. the hospital is not commenting at all. this is a young boy who found a loaded gun in his home under a bed that went off. >> at children's hospital, friends and family are holding out hope. >> but it is sad. >> i think he is a typical little boy. he never had problems.

>> police were called in to the portland apartment in hagerstown monday morning. in such apartments 7, up search found the 2-year-old in the chest. he found a handgun under the bed and accidentally shot himself. >> the carry the little kid out and he was hanging there. >> investigators say devoted gun was in possession of the child's 16-year-old brother, marcus. seven people were inside the apartment when the gun went off. >> nowadays, you can expect anything. >> police say even as the toddler lay wounded, 17-year- old fantasia rivera took the gun and hit it in a nearby playground. >> what was he doing up at 1:30 in the morning? >> a little boy fighting for his life and in neighborhood changed for the worse. >> i will not walk outside

anymore. there are guns at the park and people in these buildings should not have guns,. . >> the police k-9 unit later recovered that gun. the teenagers face multiple charges. they are being charged as adults. our prayers are with a little boy tonight. >> thanks a lot, rich. another infant is in the hospital after a car crash in prince george's county at the intersection of floral park road and all the liberty lane. the car the truck was riding in hit a tree. four other people suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. no word yet on what caused the car accident. >> we have some new video on the damage left behind after some strong storms breezed through this area. trees fell on a cart in

northeast, on massachusetts avenue. luckily, no one was hurt. we asked for rain after weeks without much, but it looks like we are making up for it now. >> restarted to get what we needed and it looks like it is not over yet. >> we are getting a break right now, caroline and leon. depending on where you live, there has been a lot of rain. some spots like bethesda had over an inch of rain. downtown in washington, only 0.25 inches of rain. that is folks out toward the eastern shore. this area is still under a flood watch that includes our local area. if you look at the graphics, you can see where that area is.

. there is a coastal flood warning out as well. we will see more rain coming. more on the way when i join you in a few minutes. the doctor who survived the deadly shooting at johns hopkins hospital is back home. he was released shortly before 6:00 this evening. he was shot after he delivered bad news about a mother's medical condition. a man killed the mother and turned the gun on himself after a day-long walk down at johns hopkins. in baltimore, firefighters searched through the rubble of a collapsed building. the structure fell this afternoon. the policeman said he saw a woman standing in part of the building when it fell, but so far firefighters have not found any victims and do not know what caused the building to collapse. for anyone who's morning

commute takes them over memorial bridge, it is closed for repairs and will not open until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. this is the second night in a row the bridge has been shut down for structural work. maryland's new cell phone lot is set to take effect later this week. it starts friday. anyone holding a cell phone or texting while driving could be ticketed. drivers who are caught can get points put on their license and face a $100 fine. a deal is shaking up the skies. southwest airlines is buying air tran for $1.40 million. >> you will be able to fly southwest out of lincoln national airport. -- out of reagan national airport. >> there has been a lot of mixed reaction. you have to remember here at national airport there are a lot of business travelers. they are excited about having

he was driving drunk last year when his car collided with a vehicle carrying a los angeles angels pitcher. the man and his friends were killed. president obama is in albuquerque tonight as part of a stop on a four-state tour. in the coming days, the president will be traveling to wisconsin and iowa before wrapping up in virginia. today, he signed a small- business bill into law. he says it will help spur job growth. after the break, flaws found in the sea and boating equipment. -- in d.c. voting equipment. >> from a fantasy to a dream come true.

temperature. officially down at national airport, less than 0.25 inches of rain. in bethesda, over 2 inches. vienna, about 0.25 inches. southern maryland, tomorrow morning, you may be seeing some heavy rains down around charlotte county and st. mary's county. here is what is going on around the area. here is the regional radar. here we are in washington. he was the first batch we came to earlier today. there is a general area of low pressure. this next batch will come up and over, and i think more into southern maryland as we get into the early morning areas. i think we will break out with a bit of sunshine. high temperatures around the country today, we were at 78. the mid part of the country again in the '80s. phoenix was 106. it missed the record by one

degree. humidity all the way into new york city. we are headed toward october with a do point of 70 -- a dew point of 70. another wave is going to be dipping to the south. by thursday, that will be bringing in more heavy rains. tomorrow morning, especially folks in southern maryland and the eastern suburbs of washington will see locally heavy rain showers. by 12:00, that latest batch moves off. i think by tomorrow afternoon it will become sunny, warm, a little bit of leftover summer weather with a temperature near 80 degrees. we will get a break on wednesday. then the next batch of some locally heavy rain comes in on thursday with temperatures on thursday in the mid 70's. after all of that move is by, we

big news for washington music lovers. placido domingo announced that he is resigning from the national opera. he has been there since 1996 as artistic director and then general director. the opera's feature has been in question amid speculation over a merger with the kennedy center. the man does said he will leave when his contract expires next year. 810-year-old singer from prince george's county is hitting some -- a 10-year-old singer from
